My article entitled,“Pursing Passions,” came out in the Angelos Magazine. I am so excited about this piece being published because I am a strong believer in following your dreams and passions in life. I feel so honored that I had the opportunity to share my story (and what an incredible surprise it was to find my face on the cover!) #Grateful
I have to admit though, during some of my failed endeavors I used to question whether I made the right choice in pursuing my passions and walking the road less traveled. Living in Italy seems glamorous, but it hasn’t always been easy (and frankly still isn’t.) There have been a lot of sacrifices along the way like living far from family and friends, overcoming a language barrier and moments of solitude, and creating a career in a new sector. I am nowhere near “accomplished”; I have a long ways to go and a lot of improvements to make before I would consider myself “successful”. Yet, I am proud for staying true to my passions and overcoming the obstacles along the way.
I love eating raw almonds by the handful, they are one of my favorite snacks. But, sometimes raw almonds aren’t satisfying enough. Sometimes I want something creamy and smooth, like almond butter, to spread on toast, mix into a delicious smoothie bowl or eat by the spoonful.
Peanut butter is finally found in most normal grocery stores in Italy (hurray!), but it’s hard to find other nut butters. Almond butter has a more delicate taste in respect to peanut butter and has more Omega 3 fatty acids that are important for a healthy heart. It is also high in vitamin E and magnesium. The only place that may have almond butter was a little organic store on the other side of town. So, I got on my bike and headed on a bumpy ride through the cobble stone streets. When I saw the little glass jar my eyes lit up, I grabbed it off the shelf and caught a glimpse at the price: 10euros! What? The jar was tiny. Miniscule. I checked out the ingredient label: almonds and cane sugar. Sugar…sugar…sugar….Ugh. Enough with putting sugar in everything! It was settled. I would make it myself.

For all you ladies out there, let me ask you a question. Have you ever bought a beautiful dress and a pair of heels that you absolutely love but have only worn once or twice? Maybe you splurged on the items or found them on sale, maybe you bought them for a wedding or a special date. Regardless of how much you love them, they sit at the back of your closet collecting dust while slowly making their way to becoming vintage. It’s a waste that can be avoided. You just need reasons to dress. That tagline is also the blog name of my newly acquainted fashion blogger friend Angie Nardiello (in the black dress) who suggested that we get dolled up and enjoy an aperitivo (aperitif) together.

Angie is a Canadian expat who I met through our lovely mutual American friend Adrienne (pink dress). Within the first five minutes of meeting her, she suggested putting together this summer cocktail style evening. Adrienne was to host at her beautiful house, Angie was to coordinate our outfits and I was to prepare the menu.

While you may think of an omelet purely as breakfast fare, in Italy the frittata, a similar egg-based dish, is much more versatile and commonly eaten for lunch, happy hour or dinner.
While traveling in Italy, you may find a rectangle of frittata served in a sandwich on crusty Italian bread, or cut in small squares and jabbed with toothpicks to be accompanied by a CONTINUE READING
